The latest BYD Atto 2 is an urban-focused SUV set to launch in September, with a price tag expected to be below £30,000 (BYD).

It has been nearly two years since BYD made its debut in the UK, and the brand has now introduced its fifth model available for purchase in the country, the BYD Atto 2.

Unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show, the Atto 2 is described as a urban EV SUV, likely to rival the new Vauxhall Frontera and MG ZS when it arrives in the UK around September time – just in time for the new 75 registration plate.

The latest BYD Atto 2 showcases rear lights designed in the form of a 'Chinese knot', resembling the number 8, which is considered auspicious in Chinese culture (BYD).

While we are still awaiting final specifications and pricing for the UK market, we anticipate that the BYD Atto 2 will be priced significantly below £30,000 upon its release. The initial model will come equipped with a 45.1kWh battery, providing a maximum range of 194 miles. A larger battery option will be introduced later on, and all Atto 2 models will incorporate BYD's cutting-edge Blade Battery technology, which integrates the battery pack into the vehicle's chassis, enhancing safety and optimizing space.

Measuring 4,310mm in length and 1,830mm in width, the Atto 2 is marginally smaller in both dimensions compared to the Atto 3. However, it remains relatively close in size to the BYD Dolphin hatchback, which serves as the entry model for BYD in the UK. The Dolphin is priced from £26,195 and offers a driving range of 211 miles.

The Atto 2 stands noticeably taller than the Dolphin, featuring an extended wheelbase that ensures ample cabin space. Additionally, it boasts a boot capacity of 400 litres, which can be expanded to an impressive 1,340 litres when the seats are folded down.

The interior of the new BYD Atto 2 is set to deliver premium quality and an abundance of features, including a rotating infotainment display (BYD).

The vehicle boasts an array of SUV design elements, including robust bumpers at both the front and rear, along with protective cladding around the wheel arches that accommodate sturdy alloy wheels. At the front, it showcases LED headlights complemented by sleek daytime running lights. Meanwhile, the rear features LED lights designed in the form of a 'Chinese knot', mirroring the number 8, which is considered auspicious in Chinese culture.

Every model is anticipated to feature BYD’s signature rotating center display and the choice of a panoramic glass roof, a rarity in this category of vehicles.

BYD has assured top-notch quality in the interior as well, incorporating cushioned materials across various surfaces, and the gear selector boasts a stunning cut-diamond design. Although the majority of the vehicle's features will be managed via the touchscreen, there are dedicated buttons for certain climate controls and a distinct volume knob for the audio system.

BYD's present range in the UK features the Atto 3 mid-size SUV, the budget-friendly Dolphin hatchback, and the premium Seal and Sealion 7 models that compete with the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y. Additionally, there's the newly launched Seal U DM-I large SUV, which comes with plug-in hybrid technology starting at £33,205.
