A beloved Sega Dreamcast title from 1999 is set to receive a remake this year. Originally hitting arcades in 1998, this game made its way to the Sega Dreamcast a year later. While it first arrived in arcades, it is primarily recognized as a Dreamcast game, where it remained exclusive until 2001, when it was released for PC, and later as a console exclusive until 2008, when it launched on the Wii. In 1999, if you wanted to play this game, your only option was the Sega Dreamcast unless you visited your nearby arcade.

When considering the top games for the Sega Dreamcast, titles such as Soulcalibur, Jet Set Radio, Phantasy Star Online, Virtua Tennis, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Rez, Ikaruga, Skies of Arcadia, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, Sonic Adventure, and Sega Bass Fishing likely come to mind. Additionally, The House of the Dead 2 is probably on your list as well. If you find yourself reminiscing about The House of the Dead 2 in 2025, you’re in for a treat, as this classic 1999 title is set to receive a remake this year.

Originally created by Sega, The House of the Dead 2 is a horror-themed light-gun shooter that serves as a direct follow-up to the 1996 Sega Model 2 title, The House of the Dead. Following the remake of the original game in 2022, MegaPixel Studio and Forever Entertainment have returned to bring this sequel to life.

While an exact release date for the remake has yet to be announced, the aforementioned sources suggest that it is expected to launch this spring on platforms including Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X.

Similar to the original remake, the new version will feature remastered music, but fans of the classic soundtrack can still enjoy it as an option. Additionally, it will boast "modern graphics," a co-op mode, multiple endings, branching levels, and gameplay that remains "true to the original."

“In February 2000, a quiet town found itself unexpectedly besieged by aggressive beings,” states the official synopsis of the game for those who may not be acquainted with it. “Two AMS agents, James Taylor and Gary Stewart, were dispatched to look into the matter. Upon their arrival, they realized that the circumstances mirrored the Curien Mansion incident from 1998. With a strong resolve to discover the origin of the outbreak, they started to fight their way through waves of creatures.”
